yorkie puppies

The American Kennel Club has released their list of the most popular dogs for 2009. It may come as no surprise that the Labrador Retriever is at the top of the list for the 19th year in a row. What may be surprising to us Yorkie puppy lovers is that the Yorkshire Terrier has been bumped down to the number 3 position by the German Shepherd.

Before all of us toy breed lovers go on a rampage, there is good news. The Yorkshire Terrier puppies are the most popular breed in the toy group – no small feat to overcome there! For at least the last 3 years, Yorkies have been ranking in the second position, giving them the second most popular dog title for quite some time. So what happened in 2009, people?

The AKC gets their numbers from the amount of dogs in a specific breed that are registered through their organization. Maybe some of us new Yorkie puppy owners have not yet registered our puppy? Really, that is not such a big deal. But if you’re a competitive person and want to see your favorite, furry breed make it back to its deserving spot, get those papers filled out and sent in!

On another note, the top ten dogs were split directly in half between large breeds and toy breeds which seems to say our little pups are giving the big guys a run for their money!

As Yorkshire Terrier puppy lovers, we will simply not believe that one of our favorite breeds has dropped in popularity. We’re sure there is a reasonable explanation and plan to make 2010 a successful year for this little breed!

Yorkshire Terrier puppies from teacup yorkies to full grown yorkshire terriers are among the cutest of pets. Our Yorkshire Terrier puppies come with either a UKC or an AKC registration.
